Fundraising is one of the major activities of the Parents & Friends Association.  Fundraising provides vital additional financial support for the school to continue to invest in educational resources for the benefit of all students.

Each year the school (via the Principal) provides the P & F Association with a “wish list” of educational priorities and costs that are outside its budget.  The P & F then agrees on the financial commitment that it can provide to assist the school in achieving these priorities.

St Michael's major fundraising activity is the Annual fete.  Families are strongly encouraged to get involved with the Fete by donating goods and volunteering time to run various stalls or donating time to assist in the organisation of the Fete.

There may be other smaller fundraising activities held throughout the year, i.e, Race Days, Walkathons, Trivia nights, Cake/Produce stalls, entertainment book sales etc. to assist the P & F to achieve its financial commitments for the year.

Funds that the P & F have raised over the past three years have provided vital financial assistance to support the following purchases:

    • Information Technology – iPads, iMac desktop computers for the library, Mac Minis for classrooms, a Smartboard, Macbook Pros and a trolley/equipment for these items.
    • Key Learning Area Resources
    • Resources for Bubble classes
    • Library Resources
    • Gifted Education resources
    • Classroom readers
    • $15K contribution to the Shade Sail
    • A contribution towards the Leader in Me programme, signage & in-house teacher training.
    • A contribution towards the Electronic school sign
    • Noticeboards & Library Shelving
    • Bag racks for outside classrooms, bean bags for the library, an instrument storage cupboard for the McCarthy Centre, additional outdoor seating & gardens beds around the school.
    • Funding towards the kitchen garden & worm/composting programme

How can you help?

Positive involvement of parents is one of the important ingredients of an effective school. Of course, finding the time to get involved in school activities is not easy and we understand that many parents would like to help out but are unable to make a regular commitment. The main thing to remember is that every little bit helps. Even if you only have the time to attend an occasional P & F meeting or can only volunteer for events on an ad hoc basis, your involvement is important and greatly appreciated. After all, the small contributions of many parents add up and help us achieve some really worthwhile benefits for our students and our school.

So please don’t be shy – there are all sorts of ways to help provide some positive “parent power”.

Keep a watch in all newsletters for requests for parent help and who to contact.  Parent help is always needed for Canteen meal deal days, special events like Grandparents Day, Mothers & Fathers Day stalls, discos, working bees … the list goes on!!
